Lo! Peninsula is a three-piece shoegaze/dream pop/psych rock band from India based in Imphal, Manipur, comprising of Nitin Shamurailatpam (voice and guitar), Avinash Thokchom (bass) and Jyotin Elangbam (drums).

In April 2017, they decided to come together to start writing songs without confining themselves to any specific genre known to them. Without much direction, they started jamming for days, and after merely three months, they managed to record and release their debut single ‘Chasing Tidal Waves, which was released in July 2017.

In August 2018, Lo! Peninsula released their self-produced six-track debut EP titled ‘AKA Lo Peninsula’, described by KEXP as “a document crammed full of catchy melodies, swirling guitars, bluesy bass runs, and driving drum beats”. The recording of their debut EP did not come easy – frequent power outages and public curfews in Manipur meant they had to keep putting their work on hold. Living in a conflict-affected Manipur also meant the band didn’t have access to necessary equipment for recording or even rehearsals. Consequently, in the succinct words of the band itself, the songs are a reflection of “a catharsis of the existential crisis that we have been facing since the band was formed”.

Following connoted struggles and sacrifices, their EP and a music video for one of their singles ‘Another Divine Joke’ have earned them several little victories, like being selected as Editor’s Pick by Rolling Stones India, getting features on music blogs like KEXP, Primal Music Blog & Primal Radio, Obscure Sound, Border Movement, and White Light//White Heat, and playing some of the most popular music properties in India.
